The Book of Cold Cases: A New TV Series in the Making (2025)

Get ready, true crime fans! The chilling novel The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James is being adapted into a TV series by MGM Television! Published back in 2022 by Berkley, the book has captivated readers with its blend of mystery and suspense. Now, it's heading to the small screen.

Deadline reports that MGM Television secured the rights after a competitive bidding war. Steve Stark and Stacey Levin from Toluca Pictures will be executive producing the series, alongside the author herself, Simone St. James. And that's not all – Colleen McGuinness, known for her work on shows like 30 Rock, Ramy, Forever, Friends from College, and Life & Beth, is on board to write the adaptation.

But what's the story about? The Book of Cold Cases plunges us into Claire Lake, Oregon, in 1977, where a series of murders known as the Lady Killer Murders terrorized the town. The prime suspect? Beth Greer, a wealthy and eccentric young woman. Though acquitted, she retreated into isolation. Fast forward to 2017, and Shea Collins, a true crime website enthusiast, stumbles upon Beth. Intrigued, Shea begins interviewing Beth, only to find herself drawn into a web of unsettling events within Beth's mansion. Is Beth a manipulative murderer, or is something more sinister at play?

And this is the part most people miss... The novel's suspenseful narrative promises a thrilling adaptation.

Here's where it gets controversial... St. James herself has an interesting background, having spent 20 years in the television industry before becoming a full-time author. Her experience gives her unique insights into the adaptation process, which could make the series even more compelling. Her debut novel was The Haunting of Maddy Clare in 2012. Since then, she has written several other novels, including An Inquiry into Love and Death, Silence for the Dead, The Other Side of Midnight, Lost Among the Living, The Broken Girls, The Sun Down Motel, and Murder Road.

What do you think? Are you excited about the TV adaptation of The Book of Cold Cases? Will it live up to the suspense of the book? Share your thoughts in the comments below! What are your favorite true crime stories?
